Solutions

In UsageCloud, solutions are created to contain streams. The streams in a solution are often related in some way, functionally or otherwise.

You can also create, list, read, and update solutions from an external application through the Solution management API. For more information, see Solution management API.

After you log into UsageCloud, you are taken to the Solutions page. This page displays all solutions created within your current account. On each solution card, you see the name of the solution, its annotation, the number of streams in that solution, and how many of them are currently deployed, running, or have failed. The annotation is a free-text note about the solution, for example, what the solution is for or who owns it. A card without an annotation shows the placeholder text Solution annotation. A long annotation is shortened on the card and ends with an ellipsis. Hover over the annotation to read the full text in a tooltip. You can also edit or delete a solution.

Creating a solution

To create a new solution:

1. Click the Create solution button.

2. Add a name in the Solution name field.

3. In the Color drop-down list, select one of the 20 palette colors for the icon. The list shows a swatch next to each color name, and Plum is selected by default.

4. In Annotation, enter a note about the solution, for example, what it is for. The annotation is optional and can be up to 5000 characters long. If the annotation is longer, the dialog shows the message Annotation must be 5000 characters or fewer, and you cannot create the solution until you shorten the text.

5. Click Create solution.

Once a solution is created, you can create a stream or import an existing stream or example stream; see Streams.

Editing a solution card

To change a solution:

1. On the solution card, click Edit.

2. Change the Solution name, the Color, or the Annotation. To remove the annotation, clear the Annotation field.

3. Click Save.

The card shows the new values immediately, and they are kept when you reload the page. The same 5000-character limit applies when you edit the annotation.

Deleting a solution

Click Delete to permanently delete a solution. The delete option removes the solution and all streams inside that solution.
