Terms and Acronyms

This section contains glossaries for all terms and acronyms used throughout the KPI Management and   documentation.

KPI Management Terms and Acronyms

Term/AcronymDefinition
DimensionA dimension represents a category in a data set and is used for grouping of KPIs.
KDRA UDR type that holds the source data for KPI calculations. The decoded input to the workflow is represented as key-value pairs in the UDR, which can then be referenced in a service model.
KPI
A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively an organization is achieving key business objectives. A KPI in is derived and calculated by aggregating metrics in a dimension over a specified period of time.
MetricA metric is the result of a calculation based on one or more values in the KDRs. Various functions define how these values should be aggregated in each period.
Service ModelA service model is set of objects that defines dimensions, metrics, trees, and KPIs and the relation between these entities.
TreeA tree is a representation of a set of paths to dimensions in a service model.
Period

Metrics are aggregated in discrete periods. The length of these periods is determined by properties in the service models.

Spark Application

KPI Management includes a generalized Spark application that provides distributed data acquisition from Kafka, KPI calculations, and output to Kafka. Launching this application is referred to as "submitting" it to the Spark cluster.
