The following system requirements need to be met in order to install the Policy and Charging Control.

Containers

Operating System

The Platform Container and Execution Containers require any of the following Operating Systems:

  • Any Linux distribution that is intended to be a downstream, complete binary-compatible release using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system source code.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x/8.x on x86/x86-64

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.x/15.x on x86/x86-64

  • Ubuntu Server 16.04/18.04 on x86/x86-64

Java

Oracle JDK 8 or OpenJDK 8 must be installed on the server running Platform Container and Execution Containers.

If you want to use the Web Desktop, Java version 1.8.0_312 or later is required.

Databases

The following database types are supported:

  • Derby
  • Oracle Database 12.1, 12.2.0.2(Oracle 18c) and 12.2.0.3(Oracle 19c)
  • PostgreSQL 10 or newer
  • SAP HANA 2.0 (multiple-container database mode)

Other Third Party Software

The following software is optional or is required by optional components:

  • For Couchbase Enterprise Edition support, see the /wiki/spaces/3PP/pages/1671475.
  • Cloudera Distribution Hadoop 6.3.x or Cloudera Data Platform 7.1.x (Data Hub agent)
  • Elasticsearch version 6.2.1 (storage for Aggregation)
  • Grafana 7.5.5 or newer (visualization tool for System Insight)
  • InfluxDB 1.2.0 (storage for System Insight)
  • Kafka version 0.8-2.4.1
  • MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition with NDB version 7.5.x, 7.6.x and 8.0.x
    • MySQL Cluster CGE version 8 is supported only for PCC functionality
    • All other uses of MySQL Database, MZ supports version 5.x
  • Python 2*) or Python 3*) (required by Python agents) 
  • Redis Labs Enterprise Cluster 4.4.2 (storage for Aggregation, Distributed Storage, and PCC)
  • ElastiCache (Redis service in AWS) (storage for PCC)

Desktop and Desktop Launcher

The following OS and third-party software are required by the Desktop and the Desktop Launcher:

  • Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.
  • Java Platform Standard Edition (JRE) 8 is required.

Web Browsers

For web based interfaces, it is recommended that you use the latest available versions of the following web browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge


Network

It is recommended that you have at least 1 GB Ethernet. Additional switches and network cards are required for a High Availability configuration. See 9. High Availability for PCC for further information.

Storage

The Policy and Charging Control solution has been designed to run with local disk storage.

Other Requirements

  • Two machines assigned to [CZ].

  • Two machines assigned to the [EZ].

  • For Couchbase - three machines assigned to [DR]. 

  • For MySQL Cluster - two machines assigned to [DR].

  • All machines running the same OS.

  • SSHdeamon installed and running on all machines.
     

Note!

Sharing is only supported for the software installed when used for application failover. No runtime data, e g data provided in the Data Repository, should use shared storage, e.g NFS.
